Final Locations

After considering all of our proposed locations and solving the problems that arised, we decided on the final locations to film at for our opening.

Stacey Munez's Room/Home

Interior (Location 1)

Exterior (Location 2)

We chose the first location for Stacey's room as it was more girly than the other location and suited the character of Stacey more than the other room. There is also more filming space and lots of lighting available to ensure we created the look we want for our film. The location is also close to school and can be accessed nearly all the time.

The exterior of Stacey's home is the door from the other proposed location for Stacey's home. This is because if we filmed Stacey leaving her house at her room and then filmed Stuart in the living room of the same location, they would leave through the same door, confusing the audience. To solve this, Stacey will leave the house from this location which is also near to school and this will prevent confusion as to who lives where.

Bob Phillips' Room/Home

Interior

Exterior

We chose this location for Bob's character as it's already got some of the props needed for his character and little is needed to portray the signifiers we need to the audience. The location is convenient, close to school and has enough space to film the necessary shots for his character. It's individual and also contrasts the other characters, giving him his own personal identity.

The exterior of the house is also individual, contrasting the characters. As it's the same location as the interior of the room and Stuart's room, this will save time when filming their characters. The house is also  situated off a main road allowing us to film there with few disruptions.

Stuart Thurgood's Lounge/Home

Interior

Exterior

The location of the living room reflects the attitudes of Stuart's family and will add emphasis to the awkward moments when he is waiting to go to school. Little will be needed to change or be added to this room in order to signify Stuart's character to the audience and there is also plenty of natural light and room to film with a variety of camera angles if necessary.

The location for Stuart's living room and front door is the same location as Stacey's bedroom so time will be save from switching locations when filming each of the character's homes. The location is also near to school and other locations so little time will be wasted travelling from location to location.

Tom Burges' Room/Home

Interior

Exterior

The interior of Tom's room includes comic wallpaper and many other props which already signify to the audience the type of character Tom is and so few props will be needed to portray our character. However, as a girl's room, the irrelevant props will have to be removed so that it looks more like a boy's room. There is also enough space to film efficiently and lighting if needed, including a large window for natural light.

The location of Tom's room and home is close to other locations and school so less time will be needed in order to move from location to location. As a flat, this ensures that there will be next to no disruptions when filming the exterior of it and this will save us time and help us to meet our deadline.

The Street

Since this is where the three main geek characters will come together on their way to college, there needed to be several access points to the same road. This location has a road from each side connecting to one main road and there is plenty of space to film. It is also situated close to school and so time will be saved when travelling from location to location which is vital as we will be filming in several places.

Proposed Locations for our Film Opening

During the initial stages of our ideas, we discussed what we would want to show in our film opening and which signifiers should be used in order to make our audience ask questions about it. After deciding on our film plot of nerds in a competition for a popular girl (secret geek), we thought about locations for our opening. Here are the proposed locations:

Stacey Munez's Room and Home
This is where the audience will see Stacey get ready for college as she undergoes her daily routine from a geeky girl into a popular cheerleader.

Location 1
(same location as Location 1 of Stuart's lounge)
Interior

Exterior

Strengths:
- As the location is not far from school, it's easily accessible and convenient when needed and time can be saved when travelling from school to the location
- It reflects the character of Stacey with only a few posters, books and other props needed in order to create the desired effect and signifiers.
- The size is reasonable and there is enough space to film easily
- As the room belongs to a group member, it's nearly always available
- As well as Stacey's room, the location also has the proposed lounge of Stuart's home so more scenes could be shot at the same location, saving time
- The surrounding area is off the main road and is often clear without cars or pedestrians, allowing easier continuity to be achieved easily and safely

Weaknesses:
- Transport will be needed in order to get to the location as quickly as possible. It's within walking distance but will take approximately 45 minutes to get to from school
- If we were to film both Stacey's room and Stuart's lounge at this location, we would have to film outside a different location for the exterior of Stuart's home and this could cause complications with continuity and confusion if they left from the same home

Location 2

Interior

Exterior

Strengths:
- As the location is not far from school, it's easily accessible and convenient when needed and time can be saved when travelling from school to the location
- It reflects the character of Stacey with only a few posters, books and other props needed in order to create the desired effect and signifiers
- The size is reasonable and there is enough space to film easily
- As the room belongs to a group member, it's nearly always available
- The location does not clash with any others (as with Location 1) and this will prevent complications when filming the character's leaving their house

Weaknesses:
- The room is plain and more props will be needed in order to portray her character properly, as it's neither geeky nor girly enough
- The location is not secluded so there may be problems with filming outside on a main road
- There is not a lot of room for filming

Bob Phillips' Room and Home
This is where the audience will see the character Bob get ready for school. The room will include a computer/ laptop as this is his main signifier as a geek. He will get ready for college here.

Location 1

Interior

Exterior

Strengths:
-The exterior of the house has a road that is connected to several other roads. This could be key to where the three boys meet while walking down the road at the end of the opening
- As the location belongs to a group member, it's nearly always available
- There is often little oncoming traffic or pedestrians so continuity can be achieved and there will be few interruptions
- The bedroom is a good size and so filming would be easy

Weaknesses:
-The bedroom is a bit plain and does not reflect Bob's personality
-The room has two beds, one of which will have to be hidden and this could be difficult as the filming area would become cramped
- The exterior is rural for the film as it is set in an urban environment.
- The location is also situated far from school and this may cause problems accessing it and getting all actors required to the location.

Location 2

Interior

Exterior

Strengths:
- As the location is not far from school, it's easily accessible and convenient when needed and time can be saved when travelling from school to the location
- It reflects the character of Bob with only a few posters, books and other props needed in order to create the desired effect and signifiers
- The location is not far from school and other locations so this will save time and is easily accessible

Weaknesses:
- The location does not belong to a group member and this means that filming will be subjective to the owner's consent
- The times at which we can film are limited
- There is not a lot of room to film

_______________________________________________

Stuart Thurgood's Room and Home
There will need to be a lounge for this part of the opening; this is where Stuart will be watching a talk show on the television whilst he is eating a muffin. His room will then be shown in little detail as he gets himself ready for college.

Location 1

(same location as Stacey's room/home)

Interior

Exterior

Strengths:
- The location is not far from school and is easily accessible, convenient when needed and time can be saved when travelling from school to the location
- There is enough room to film easily from many angles
- As the room belongs to a group member, it's nearly always available
- The location also has the proposed lounge of Stuart's home so more scenes could be shot at the same location, saving time
- Reflects the formal attitudes of his parents

Weaknesses:
- If we were to film both Stacey's room and Stuart's lounge at this location, we would have to film outside a different location for the exterior of Stuart's home and this could cause complications with continuity and confuse the audience when they leave the same home

Location 2

Interior

Exterior

Strengths:
- The living room is a large space for everyone to work in easily
- As the location belongs to a group member, it's nearly always available
- There is often little oncoming traffic or pedestrians so continuity can be achieved and there will be few interruptions when filming outside

Weaknesses:
- On camera, one side of the room appears dull and this will cause problems as we want natural lighting for Stuart's scene
- The location is far from school and it will be hard to travel there when filming for both the actors and crew
- The exterior is too rural for the film as it is set in an urban environment

Tom Burges' Room and Home
This is a lot like the other rooms used but, instead, this room is extremely clean and tidy. Everything is ordered in a certain way and it's plain but the comics reflect Tom's personality.

Interior

Exterior

Strengths:
- It reflects the character of Tom with only a few posters, books and other props needed in order to create the desired effect and signifiers
- The size is reasonable and there is enough space to film easily
- The location belongs to a group member so it's nearly always accessible
- The location is not far from school so we can access it easily

Weaknesses:
- The room size and shape limits the angles that can be shot
- The room has objects which are not suitable for our film opening and Tom's character which will need to be removed
- As the location is in a flat, there is no door to film when Tom leaves his home so this would have to be filmed at a different location

_______________________________________________

Street

Location 1

Strengths:
- There is plenty of room to easily film and get the camera angles we want
- There are many paths and directions from where the characters can enter the frame
- As the location is outside a group member's house, it will be easy to locate and get the cast and crew to the location

Weaknesses:
- As the location is rural and far from school. Since three actors will be needed for such a short scene, there may be problems with getting to this destination
- The location is on a main road which can get busy at times
- The location is in a rural setting whereas our opening is set in an urban are

Location 2

Strengths:
- The surrounding of the location is quiet and this will make it easier to film easily
- There is plenty of natural lighting
- There are many paths and directions from where the characters can enter the frame
- As the location is outside a group member's house, it will be easy to locate and get the cast and crew to the location
- The location is close to school and other proposed locations and so time will be saved when travelling to different locations

 Weaknesses:
- There are not many surrounding homes and so the are may look a bit rural for our setting
- The neighbours are known to be stubborn and like the peaceful environment and so we will have to ask permission from them and respect their opinions and requests if we need to move location
